We managed to oversleep this morning, woke at 9am! Quick shower and down for breakfast in time to catch the others- we were meeting at 8:30- whoops . Then Andy and I went off for a look at tomorrow's route out of Rome. There are all sorts of ruins all over the place- we went passed Roman baths, roman gates to the town, roman catacombs- well, we were walking along the old main road into Rome. Lunch was a picnic in the park at 3pm, then back to the hotel to rest our legs. The rest of the crew have been arriving in drubs and drabs. Pete was stopped by the police twice on his drive over with the van and searched- they seemed to think he might be a bicycle thief. The French police were particularly thorough.
After meeting up with most of the group for a drink, Jayne persuaded us that the best view in Rome was a five minute walk from the hotel, looking through a keyhole. Well, we had to go and look. When we arrived, there was a long and orderly queue. After waiting about quarter of an hour, we all had our turns....wow!
Dinner at a great roman restaurant that managed to fit 17 of us in. It was very full! I had wonderful roast lamb, Andy had roast pork. Ian's birthday, he was properly embarrassed by having happy birthday sung to him three times in the restaurant.
